Robust forklift tyre selection
If your business owns and operates a fleet of forklifts, make sure they’re using the best tyres on the market.
As the industry leaders for tyres and wheels, our team at OTR Tyres will help you find a product that meets your needs. We supply solid, pneumatic, and non-marking forklift tyres equipped with different treads and compounds to help you perform your tasks safely and swiftly. These tyres are available for both indoor and outdoor applications.
Our forklift tyres are also designed to feature a different tread pattern so that they’re stronger and safer. This means you’ll have better fuel efficiency compared to other forklift tyres.
Forklift tyre supply, fitting and servicing
across Australia
Sourcing the right forklift tyre is one part of the job. Getting it fitted correctly, on time and without pulling machinery out of service is the other.
OTR Tyres supplies and fits forklift tyres on-site across Australia, with branches and mobile service teams covering metropolitan, regional and remote locations. Whether it is a scheduled replacement across a warehouse fleet or an unplanned breakdown, the same team that supplies the tyre can fit it.
Solid fill forklift tyres
For forklift operations in high-debris environments, solid filling removes the puncture risk entirely. The process replaces the air in a pneumatic tyre with a solid polyurethane compound, making it completely flat-proof while retaining the ride characteristics of a pneumatic.
Getting solid fill services for your forklift tyres extends their lifespan and eliminates unplanned downtime from punctures. It’s particularly suited to operations on construction sites, recycling facilities, timber yards and warehouses handling sharp materials.
Choosing the right forklift tyre
Not all forklift tyres suit every application.
The operating environment, floor surface, load weight, and shift intensity all influence which type performs best and lasts longest.
Solid tyres
Built from dense rubber compound with no air cavity. Flat-proof, low-maintenance and purpose-built for high-intensity indoor operations on sealed concrete.
- No pressure monitoring. No puncture risk.
- Consistent load capacity across long shift cycles.
- Predictable wear life. Lower total maintenance overhead.
Pneumatic tyres
Air-filled for cushioning and surface adaptability. The right call for forklifts moving between indoor and outdoor environments or operating on uneven ground.
- Superior traction on compacted gravel, hardstand and mixed surfaces.
- Requires pressure monitoring and carries puncture risk in debris-heavy conditions.
- Solid fill available where punctures are a recurring operational cost.
Non-marking tyres
A light-coloured compound that leaves no residue on sealed floors. Available in solid and pneumatic. Non-negotiable in regulated environments.
- Required in food manufacturing, pharmaceutical, cold storage, electronics and distribution.
- Meets hygiene and floor contamination compliance standards.
- Delivers the same load capacity and wear performance as standard solid or pneumatic tyres, without the compliance risk.

Can you change tyres on a forklift?
Yes, though the method depends on the tyre type. Solid and pneumatic tyres require a hydraulic press for removal and fitment. Split rim and multi-piece wheel assemblies must only be handled by qualified tyre fitters, with a safety cage used during inflation, as required under Australian WHS regulations. Steer and drive axle fitment procedures also differ, so correct axle-position matching is part of the process.
What are Australia’s forklift tyre regulations?
Under the Work Health and Safety (WHS) Act 2011 and corresponding state regulations, forklift tyres must be inspected as part of daily pre-operation checks and maintained to manufacturer specifications. Only qualified tyre fitters are permitted to remove and fit forklift tyres. Tyre type selection is also a compliance consideration. The operating surface, load capacity and environment all inform which tyre is appropriate, and using an unsuitable tyre can constitute a WHS breach.
When should I replace forklift tyres?
Forklift tyres should be assessed as part of daily pre-start inspections and replaced when any of the following are present:
- Tread worn to or beyond the wear line indicators
- Visible chunking, cracking or tearing of the compound
- Flat spots causing uneven load distribution or instability
- Consistent pressure loss in pneumatic tyres
- Any deformation affecting load capacity or handling
Delayed replacement increases instability risk, accelerates wheel and hub wear, and places the operator and worksite outside WHS compliance.
